Azerbaijan is a country
with highly developed economics and culture.
The total area of Azerbaijan territory is
86.6 thousand km2. In the north Azerbaijan
borders on the Russian Federation, in the
west on Armenia, in the north-west on Georgia,
in the south-west on Turkey, in the south
on Iran Islam Republic. And in the east
Azerbaijan is surrounded by the Caspian
Sea along all the coast of 800 km. The republic
has a unique geographical situation: it
is situated at intersection of Europe and
Asia. The location of Azerbaijan is favorable
for international tourist streams, and beneficial
seashore also allows to develop the beach
tourism. Here culture-cognitive, ecological
hunting kinds of tourism are developing.
Since ancient times one of the briskest
trade likes of Great Silk Path was crossing
the territory of Azerbaijan. This ancient
territory is rich in its wonderful sights:
petrography, which concern to the Bronze
Age, minarets of Middle Ages, and Mosques,
mausoleums, chapels, caravanserais, castles,
memorial buildings. There are about 6000
historical monuments which were built several
thousand years ago in the territory of Azerbaijan.
During their building a synthesis of innumerable
number o cultures was used that entice the
travelers to this country. About
of third of Azerbaijan population live in
the capital, - the biggest mega polis in
the South Caucasus. This nice town is surrounded
by amphitheatre in the south slope of the
plateau, with ledges, slipping down to Baku
bay. The Absheron peninsula and Baku, situated
in its south from it, enjoy sunny and marvelous
weather. Baku
is one of the biggest industrial, cultural
and scientific centers. The wonderful monuments
of Azerbaijan national architecture adjoin
here with no less beautiful and majestic
Palaces of culture, new housing estates
organically blending ancient architecture
traditions with accomplishments of modern
town-planning. Here is situated Maidens
Tower, which is one of the biggest
Zoroastr temples in the world according
to the last researches. But the most picturesque
place of Baku is Ichari Shahar – one of
the most ancient and up to now most populated
places in the country. Archeological dig
of this place points at tombs, relating
to Bronze Age. The another interesting architectural
monument is a famous Temple of fire-worshippers
– Atashgah.
It is situated within centre for a thousand
years, it was also used by merchants of
Great Silk Path. The unique place of Azerbaijan
is considered to be Gobustan
(60 km from Baku). It is worldwide famous
for its archeological memorials. There are
more than 6000 ancient drawings, left by
the people of Late Stone Age, also a number
of Latin inscriptions, left here more than
2000 years ago. .
There is a 2-storeyed Deri-baba mausoleum
(15th century) in the ancient town of Shamakhi,
located at 180 km far from Baku. And in
Lahidj is located a historical architectural
monument – a resort, built in V Century.
Here there are also lot of old mosques and
baths, water pipes and deck drain systems
of Middle Ages. Near Shamakhi, not far from
Pirgulli is located an astrophysical observatory
named Tusi.
One of the most famous and ancient town
in Azerbaijan is Shaki. You can visit here
Summer Palace of Khan, relating to the 18th
Century, Shaki strongholds with amazing
structure, the total length of which is
1300 m. Shaki is also the centre of silk
business in the country.
Apart from the fact that Azerbaijan is attractive
in the view of history, it has got included
a wonderful landscape, seashore, forests,
mountains and plains too.
In Azerbaijan there are also sanative centers
on the world level and mineral springs.
The famous ones are mud-baths, “oil” and
thermal springs. Some of the best complexes
are situated in Guba, Gandja-Naftalan, and
Nakhchivan. Azerbaijan is also the unique
region of mud volcanism developing in the
planet. Our country takes the 1st place
in the world according to quantity and quality
of such volcanoes.
