Before
the revolution it was a deserted area named
Aksham Bazari (Evening Market), surrounded
by plain wooden booths. It was crowded here
in the evening. They were selling all kinds
of things.
Now square named Samad Vurgun was laid out
here, where before, fairs were being organized.
A
monument was set up to the national poet
of Azerbaijan-Samad Vurgun (sculptor F.
Abdurahmanov, architect M. Useynov) in the
square. A pool with fountains is situated
behind the monument.
Evergreen, coniferous and deciduous trees
(an Eldar pine, a cypress, a poplar and
others) and bushes are used in planting
of greenery in the square.
Curbstones with flower annuals and perennial
join successfully the general composition
of the square.
