This
park, located on the top circle of Baku
amphitheater, is truly the classics of the
Soviet landscape architecture. Very complicated
relief of Mountainous Park conditioned its
original terracing. Surrounding the slope
of the amphitheater, the park descends with
system of extended terraces in meridional
direction, which are main promenade places,
and connect among themselves by stairs and
grounds. Much interesting, originally made
complex of the park architecture is considered,
by right, one of the best parks of the former
Soviet country. Just therefore during the
post-war period it was subjected only to
negligible modification. The funicular constructed
in the sixties (architects A.Gulahmadov,
O. Margunova, G. Sadikhov) united Mountainous
Park with Seaside Park and provided its
comfortable connection with the central
city district.
Now functions of Mountainous Park are essentially
being transformed, and it is changing into
the park of memorial purpose. The avenue
of mourning - «Shahidlar Khiyabani» (Martyrs’
Avenue) is located here.
Cypresses, an Eldar pine, olives, a white
acacia, Japanese Sophora, a genista, an
oleander, and other species of trees and
bushes were planted on slopes of the hill
between promenade avenues in separate sceneries.
