Nowadays,
former Governor garden, one of the first
gardens in the city is called so. It is
considered as the oldest garden of Baku.
It occupied 4,5 h? and was laid out in the
place of private gardens and kitchen gardens
in the thirties, XIX century. It has been
the only in the city for a long time.
The town major ordered the captains and
owners of the courts coming from Lankaran
and Iran to Baku, to bring a few bags of
black earth for laying out of gardens, and
a big fine expected those who did not execute
the order.
First of all, a mulberry, an olive, an elm,
a pine, an acacia were planted. Flowers
were laid out. Except local species, trees
were brought from the other countries.
By sixty-seventies of the XIX century the
territory of Governor garden were noticeably
expanded, and ten years later, here decorative
trees and bushes were planted, dance pavilions
were built, pools, pergolas, terraces were
constructed. The garden grew prettier straight
in the eyes.
In the seventies working out of new project
for reconstruction and gardening was realized
by the creative teamwork of architects under
the Executive Committee of Baku (the architect
V. Musayev, etc.) with the participation
of agronomists and gardeners. Having grown
noticeably younger, the garden, nevertheless,
has kept its unique inherent coloring. As
before, visitors of the garden are admiring
straight trees, some of which were brought
from various countries: an American ash,
a Persian lilac, a breadfruit tree, date-palms,
and pistachio-trees. Every year bushes of
yellow-date and other climbing plants are
spreading out more abundantly, covering
a large area on the ground and quaintly
twining round the trunks of trees. The fluffy
verdure of the garden is in excellent harmony
with the pools, fountains, pavilions and
pergolas.
After conducting of reconstruction, the
garden named Aliaga Vahid was replenished
with new sculptural compositions. Stone
lanterns, bubblers and curbstones, comfortable
benches, waterfalls - all of them make together
a coincident-current picture and an expressive
artistic image of the park landscape. This
peculiar landscape “furniture" is skillfully
supplemented with the figure of covering
of the park territory, and its paths, made
of strong cobble-stone.
